‘Orphan’ is an American psychological and supernatural horror. The plot of the film is that a 9 year old child, Esther, loses her parents. She is then adopted by a family of two parents and two children, one of which is deaf. Strange occurrences happen around the child and a sister from the orphanage warns the parents that ‘strange’ things happen when Esther is around. Esther is a manipulative child, when anything happens that she does not like, she is violent and malicious,  resorting to murdering the sister who warned her parents. When the mother finds Esther’s bible, it says that she is from a mental institute. She then emails a picture of Esther to the hospital, they inform the mother that Esther is actually a 33 year old woman with hypopituitarism, meaning she has stunted growth and that her real name is Leena.

The actor who played Esther, Isaeblle Furhman was 12 years old at the time of filming. She looked like a typical young child, wearing traditionally feminine clothes, such as dresses and wore bows in hair and ribbons on her wrists and neck. This appearance suggested innocence and purity, which is ironic and contrasts sharply with her true nature.

Our trailer links to ‘Orphan’ as in both plots a male turns into the victim, in ‘Orphan’ the adopted father is killed by Esther, and in our trailer the father is haunted by his daughter. Both films have a psychological aspect, ‘Orphan’ focuses on an adopted child manipulating and killing her family when things do not happen as she wants, and in our trailer the father kills the children, one of whom comes back to haunt him and abuse him.
