Focus Group Questions

1. Have you ever visited the cinema to watch a horror movie? If so which ones?
2. Why do you enjoy watching horror movies? E.g. The Play Theory (adrenaline), Fantasies of Power, Psycho Analytical Account.
3. What are your favourite horror movies, if any?
4. Are you becoming increasingly uninterested in conventional horror plots? Why is this?
5. What type of sub-genre of horror are you most interested in? E.g. Supernatural, psychological
6. Would you be interested in a hybrid sub-genre? For example the killer becoming the victim at the hands of those he murdered.
7. What is it about a hybrid genre that would interest you?
8. What type of characters/creatures would you be interested in watching the most? e.g. possessed children, ghosts etc. Why?
9. What music/sound effects raise your level of anxiety when watching horror films? e.g. screaming, breathing, orchestral music.
10. Do you like the idea of a conventional family being targeted?
11. What do you think of children being used in horror? For or against?
12. Does the use of children and children’s toys e.g. China Dolls add an extra element of fear?
